the USMLE question bank bailout package

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

In the spirit of the times we live in, our friends in the US have been clamoring for a question bank bailout for the USMLE’s Step 1 & 2.

We’ve been working in the background with doctors in the US to put together a great starting batch of questions and we just went live with both USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2. There are over 500 well researched and written questions available to you for FREE.

We’ve also tweaked our infrastructure to support the load of users we expect to see for the USMLE’s. In other words… we’re excited and well setup to grow this community of doctors!

2009: An Xamcram Odyssey - Symphonic music and monkeys hurling dangerous objects into space!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

OK, so you have a couple of months to crack an exam that will likely lead to less sleepless nights fending off the endless onslaught of admissions  and more sleepless nights realising the buck actually does stop with you! You turn to the books and your eyes glaze over. You turn to - that boon for the attention deficited in all of us - the Internet. What do you see? A host of snazzy companies eager to part a desperate crammer from his money. Then out of the corner of your eye. A bright and benign monolith. Free questions. Quality ones (well many of them hopefully), penned by your peers - and with love. Now this can be a reality. In-fact we could have a Wikipedia of brilliantly worded exam questions. Sculpted and finessed by web 2.0’s hand.

In case you are wondering, that in my overblown way of stating things was Xamcram.

We want to do a quality free source here and consign some of those avaricious prep course pay sites to the place where they can cohabit with the likes of world book encyclopedia and Pan-Am. OK some of those sites are great and their promoters have worked really hard to make them so. Props to them. But there has to be something between an expensive professional pay site and loose collections of dodgy medical forums.

All you doctors out there, please send in questions that you have for MRCP, MRCPsych, MRCS, MRCOG, Radiology, Anaesthesia, Paediatrics and just about any UK/US based medical exam that you would like to see on our site. We have only put up a fraction of our repository right now, but if things work out you should be seeing our entire collection up there pretty soon.

Peace and Love

Hey  guys and girls. We are trying to build a repository of past papers with detailed explanations and answers. Of course it would be great if all of you could send us some nice finessed questions that are good to go, but (sigh) I might be getting my hopes up. OK for all you reasonably lazy people out there just send us whatever past questions you can find - in any format you like, in whatever stage of completeness. We’ll complete them and put them up on Xamcram for free. That’s a promise.Happy cramming! ED

hardware issues…

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Hi All,

We’ve had our first glitch since our launch more than a month ago. Someone at our hosting provider wasn’t paying attention and our servers went down for about 3-4 hours.

We’re really sorry if this effected your revision plans. We’re taking the best precautions to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.

Remember, xamcram is a free service being maintained and paid for by a very small team on meager incomes. We plan for these edge cases but sometimes they’re unavoidable.

Cheers and Thanks for your patience,

The xamcram Team.

New pattern MRCPsych. paper 2 - A Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Whoah! just having another look at the Royal College pass list and its a bloodbath for paper 2 MRCPsych ! I’m still reeling and my heart truly goes out to all of you that didn’t make it. It seems like there’s been a culling of some of the old tried and true topics and much of the new material has taken people by surprise. I’m still of the opinion that doing old questions is far from a wasted effort. Why? Not only do they give you the hottest flavours that the dudes at the Royal College of Psychiatrists like on their menu  (which strangely enough include beta baboons in the kalahari! ) but repeats are always a possibility. Paper 1 MRCPsych. goers seemed to have faired a lot better than expected.

We have over 120 MRCPsych. questions on right now - mostly paper1 and paper2 stuff, most have detailed explanations and are thoroughly referenced. You’ll soon be able to click these links and hook up to Google books directly. Its amazing the way you can see the book open on the very chapter you need. Its magical! I’m going to add another 100 questions in the next 2-3 weeks and make categorise the stuff under either MRCPsych paper 1, paper 2 or paper 3 in a more organised fashion. Xamcram is forging brave new territory.

May victory be yours!
